What EZ Invoices Is For, What We Just Shipped, and What's Next

EZ Invoices exists for one reason: getting paid for work you already finished should not be the hardest part of your day. This post covers what we are here to do, what we just shipped, and what we are building next.

What we are here for

Most invoicing software was built for people who sit at a desk. Contractors do not. You are on a roof, in a crawlspace, or driving to the next job, and the invoice gets written at 9pm at the kitchen table — if it gets written at all.

So we built around a few stubborn beliefs:

• Your phone is the office. Quote, invoice, and collect payment from the job site without opening a laptop.
• Materials and labor are not the same thing. You should be able to price them separately, add markup where it belongs, and let the customer see an honest breakdown.
• Getting paid should take one tap. Your customer gets a link, pays by card, and you both get a receipt. No portal, no login, no chasing.
• No feature bloat. If it does not help you finish a job or collect on it, it does not belong in the app.

What we just shipped

The last stretch of work was our biggest yet. Here is what is live right now.

• Your crew can finally have their own logins. This is the big one. You can invite team members with a role that fits what they actually do. Supervisors can build out invoices and add materials and labor for a job, but they never see prices, totals, or your margins, and they cannot send a bill to a customer. Employees get a read-only view with just the job name, the client, and the job-site address. Everyone works out of the same job list, and pricing stays between you and the customer.
• Quotes that turn into invoices. Send an estimate first, get the go-ahead, then convert it to an invoice in one click instead of retyping the whole thing.
• Milestone billing for bigger jobs. Split a large job into stages — deposit, rough-in, completion — and collect payment as you hit each one instead of waiting until the end.
• Job-site location on every document. The address of the actual work now shows on the invoice and on the payment page, which matters when the person paying is not the person who lives there.
• Install it like an app. EZ Invoices installs to your phone home screen and opens straight to your dashboard, no app store required.

What we are building now

Three things are in active development. We are not putting dates on them, but this is where the work is going:

• Automatic payment reminders. Overdue invoices should chase themselves. The plan is a polite, automatic nudge on a schedule you control, so you stop being the bad guy about your own money.
• Profit and job reporting. Revenue is not the same as profit. We want to show you which jobs, clients, and types of work actually make money, so you can quote the next one better.
• Expense and receipt tracking. Log materials and receipts against a job the moment you buy them, so the cost side is already filled in when it is time to invoice — and so the profit reporting above has real numbers behind it.

Nearly everything above came from contractors telling us what was slowing them down. The crew roles exist because owners kept saying the same thing: they wanted a foreman entering job details without the whole company seeing the margins.
